Israelis have assembled around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack led to more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most fatal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel responded by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are considered reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our violent opponents have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state remembrance events until mid-October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still occurred around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas incident was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was observed throughout the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a second day of indirect talks to review the terms of the agreement.

A high-ranking representative involved in the discussions said that an late session of negotiations began at evening in Egypt.

The official explained the earlier meeting finished without tangible results, because of disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not restart fighting after the opening period of the arrangement.

He added that the talks are "difficult and have not yet produce any major advancement," but mentioned that facilitators are working hard to close the differences between the conflicting groups.

Essential Points in Talks

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The exchange of the hostages still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance distribution
  • Future governance of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, young a woman - whose family member endured the attack on the gathering, where many attendees were killed and many more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - explained: "Nowhere appears as home now and until each abducted person are released none of us will feel safe."

"After we see all home again, we can feel relief again. Then we can commence recover," she added.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be surviving.

Protester one woman explained: "We must do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to return. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."

Surveys now consistently show that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens desire the hostilities to end in return for the release of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of the gathering, those paying respects gathered to honor the dead.

From the site, the noise of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the severe Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the urban center, attacks were documented in the morning of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and locality districts and in the east side area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"When the dusk comes, the fear comes with it," displaced urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli air strike last year, described.

"My family are terrified of the bombings. During nighttime we are sleeping together, holding each other, notably my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be achieved and that the fighting will resume to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area said it had received the remains of several people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

Another medical facility in the southern city of Khan Younis reported another two dead people had been brought there. One of them was died by Israeli forces while looking for assistance to the southern area, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry announced twenty-five of the {territ
