New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities issued video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
