The England national team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they achieve the expected qualification for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an Three Lions game since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to host the national team for their first match on Saturday 10 June 2028.

England are set to play their final two group matches at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their knockout stage opener would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Launch and Demonstration

The tournament was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were heckled as they approached the location by approximately 50 activists, who called for the Israeli team to be removed from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.

Locations and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground round out the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight held at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a venue city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.
