Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

This news arrives shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
