The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
