While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. “This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office. “Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.” The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House. The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year. A Peaceful Retirement The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement. “The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message. “It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.” Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
