The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.” With the first season of the hit program wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus. About the Incredible Viewer Reception It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both. “The experience is akin to force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.” Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show. “We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.” “It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in. The Central Mystery: Will the creator See the Conclusion of Pluribus? Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way. “We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.” Then again, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort. “I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.” Of course, why not reference the legendary finales? “I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
