The popular resale platform has altered its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel without notifying all shoppers about the modification. Online Platforms Backlash Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category than originally posted due to the recalibration. Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces. It has advised users to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction. Sizing System Changes Earlier, the sizes had both one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10. The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10. With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18. User Accounts A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder". "Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes. Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22. "Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she explained. Manual Updates Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item". "For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she explained. Platform Context The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members. It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop. This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
